MY TAKE ON INVESTING

Like everyone else, there is only one reason why I study, analyse and participate in the financial markets - and that is to make money. But the difference with me and most other people is that I am willing to use anything (legally) possible to do it. If counting the number of cockroaches that I see everyday gives me an edge in the market, I'll do it. If it works, I'll use it; be it keeping tabs on the economy, looking at charts and indicators (technical analysis), looking at value or growth potential (fundamental analysis), profits & earnings + other related market activity (quantitive analysis), through insider activity + consumer surveys (sentiment analysis) and yes even astrology.

I've spent over five years monitoring, studying, observing and trading the financial markets. My quest was to find out what makes the financial markets move, to find something substantial, something that will provide consistent monetary gains. I don't want to just accept what other authors say/write as gospel truth, I want to know why. In 2005, I took a masters degree in finance to see if what they teach in the university adds any value towards investing success - the answer is 'not really'. Investment knowledge builds up with time - what might seem unimportant to you now may become what you need to get you to the next 'level'. Such is my experience with fundamental, quantitative, economic and sentiment analysis.

What you see in this blog represents quite a number of item(s) and technique(s) that have met - like what W.D. Gann says - my '(utmost) satisfaction' and I hope that they can be of use to the investment pilgrim who's also on a quest for understanding and success.

The past week saw more sales than buys. Acquisitions in Yongnam was pretty surprising. Will they push it to a dollar as told by a friend (more than two years ago). All I know is that some pretty rich people were accumulating in the sub 10cent range.... but Yongnam didnt take off until the construction sector took off as a whole.

Nothing much happened over the past week except for the sell down on the US market on Friday on fears that high oil prices will keep inflation high..... these guys are a bit slow arent they, I was already talking about the effects that high oil prices will have on inflation two weeks ago. But then again, I dont have high expectations of the financial press. They need to have a story for everything's that's happening everyday... because everyone wants to know why.

My beliefs in the financial market is more 'Austrian' than 'Keynesian'. But despite that, it's still good to study them both cos each has its merits.

The past week saw me digging up some old books I've read a while ago. They are "Profiting in Bull and Bear Markets" by Dr Dagnino and "How I trade for a living" by Gary Smith. Dr Dagnino gave me a refresher on economic indicators and which ones I can use to further enhance my monthly chart seen in my blog entries. And the other one gave me some ideas on how I can put the NYSE Members' Report that I've been downloading for a while now.

Okay, here's what the charts are telling us:

Other than what the oil story from the financial press on friday, the US market was already in short term oversold territory (stochastics above 80). And even though the Nasdaq went up last wed, the advance-decline data did not confirm the bullishness. The AD line fell again on thursday while the market was flat, and delivered the killer blow on Friday.

The stochastics indicator is a new addition to the chart as it is better at catching short term tops than the Market Breadth Oscillator. Even though the fast MBO line is at a low level, conditions are still not right for going long.

No change on the weekly NSADAQ chart - still range bound

There's nothing to report on the weekly Nikkei225 chart as well - uptrend is still in tact

Have a good week!

Hi Andy, you can get the insider transactions on the SGX website. And as for the data on the US Market, charts are available for free at Yahoo!Finance, Marketwatch, etc. My data are collated from many sources. I created this blog because there are no websites that have what I'm looking for. Do let me know if you need further assistance.

Rgds.
